Kansas City's first aerial studio

Voler Aerial Academy opened in 2007 as the first aerial studio in Kansas City, in a loft in the historic West Bottoms. Five years later we bought a former Russian Orthodox church with twenty-foot ceilings that were, as far as we’re concerned, built for aerial arts.

Our students put us on the ballot for The Pitch’s Best of KC, where Voler won Best Fitness Class and Best Fitness Instructor. Those same students perform on stages as big as the Kauffman Center, and a few have gone on to Cirque du Soleil and The Wynn or opened studios of their own. We’ve nurtured people from total beginners to professional performers, and plenty more who are just here for the fun of it.

Perfect atmosphere to try something new! Instructor was amazing!!

Rachel is the best trainer ever…she fosters a group and sportsmanship where people build each other up.

This is better than any gym membership I’ve ever had…the strength and flexibility I get each week is more fun and more effective than any ground-based work I’ve done.

Great & safe space for my daughter to practice and have fun doing silks. We love the instructors as they are always there and willing to help.

You tell us your theme. We become it.

The other half of Voler is Thieves of Flight, the performance troupe that has been working Kansas City since 2007, including Busker Fest, Ameristar, Union Station, the Nelson-Atkins, and corporate stages across the metro.
They perform every year at the Lawrence KS Busker Festival and always draw a large crowd for a good reason. They are something to behold.

Aerial Class FAQ

No. Every class runs on safety progressions: warm up, learn one skill at a time, and practice it close to the ground until you’re confident enough to take it higher. Most students arrive with no aerial experience. If you want the gentlest start, aerial yoga and wellness classes keep your feet close to the floor while you build the same strength.

Leggings or fitted pants that cover the backs of your knees, plus a top that stays put when you are upside down. Leave the jewelry at home. If you want the full picture before you book, here is what aerial silks is and what a first class feels like.

Ours run for kids and teens ages 7 to 16, using the same safety progressions as our adult classes, just paced for younger students. Sixteen-year-olds sometimes move into adult classes when they’re ready. See our kids aerial classes for ages and schedule, or join the email list if you’d like a dedicated teen class.

Yes. Bachelorette outings, birthdays, team building, and private venue rental all run out of our studio. Rates depend on the group and the length, so contact us and we will put a number together.
