What is aerial yoga

Aerial yoga, also called flying yoga or suspension yoga, is yoga practiced in a wide fabric hammock hung low from the ceiling. The hammock takes your weight, so your body can settle into poses and stretches it can’t quite reach on a mat. Expect supported inversions and deeper stretches, plus the surprisingly calming squeeze of the fabric. You leave feeling taller than you walked in.

Welcome to the garden studio

Aerial yoga lives downstairs in the garden studio, the quieter half of our 1917 church building. It’s taught low and slow, with equipment that stays close to the ground. Plenty of students who never planned on flying start here, then surprise everybody but us.
I instantly felt at home here.

Aerial Pilates, sound baths, and acro

Aerial yoga has company down here. The garden studio runs a full wellness schedule.
Aerial Pilates

Pilates with the hammock as your equipment, taught with certified Pilates instruction. Core work you’ll feel for days, in a good way.

Sound baths

Restorative monthly sessions where you get comfortable and let the sound do the work. The opposite of a workout, on purpose.

Acro

Ground-based partner play that builds strength and balance. No hammock, no height, all fun.

If you’re new to all of this, start here

Aerial yoga is the front door for the nervous and the curious. The hammock holds you and the floor stays close, and no one’s watching to see whether you’re good at it. It’s the class where people find out their body can do more than they gave it credit for.
When you’re ready for more air, intro aerial in silks or lyra is the natural next step.

Very welcoming and friendly environment. A sense of community for sure!

Aerial yoga questions

Yes, it’s the gentlest entry point on our schedule. The hammock supports your weight the whole time, and poses are taught with your feet on or near the floor. Many students take aerial yoga for months before trying anything higher, and plenty happily never do.

No. The hammock makes several classic poses easier than they are on a mat, because it carries part of your weight. If you’ve never done yoga at all, this is a friendly place to find out what the fuss is about.

Aerial yoga uses a wide hammock hung low, and the point is support: stretches, poses, and decompression. Aerial silks is a climbing apparatus, two long strands of fabric you climb, wrap, and drop from as a skill-building practice. If you want calm, start with aerial yoga. If you want a challenge, start with silks.
Pilates principles, practiced with the aerial hammock instead of a reformer. The fabric adds instability where you want it and support where you need it, so core and control work get more interesting. Classes run in the garden studio at a wellness pace.
Fitted layers that cover the backs of your knees, plus a water bottle. Skip jewelry and anything with zippers, they snag the fabric. We provide the hammocks.
